I am so excited to share this BRAND NEW donut shop with you Mavens! I had been waiting for them to open for months, but in all honesty, they were worth the wait.
Kim’s donut shop is located on Branch Street, in Lowell’s Cambodia Town in the middle of the hustle and bustle. A small little shop, with two booths to sit down and a friendly atmosphere. When I went with a friend and colleague Ani Vong, we were able to try a little bit of everything. We were greeted warmly by the owner, Kim, but whom we called “Ming Kim” – this is a form of respect in the Cambodian/Khmer language that we chose to use.
Freshly baked and smelling amazing, we tried the following:
- Donuts
- Kolaches
- Apple Fritters
The donuts were light and fluffy and not too heavy. I loved the long johns, which Ming filled with bavarian cream, and the apple fritters were stuffed with apples. I also have a new obsession with Kolaches which are not common here but incredibly common in Texas. They are the better version of pigs in blankets and taste absolutely amazing. The franks are ordered from Texas because as Ming told us that afternoon we went “you can’t find them quite like they have them there”. Basically, it is a frank wrapped in sweet pastry dough. Incredible and the Jalapeño one was amazing, have it heated and you will be in Heaven.
- As a side note Kolache or “Kolach” is Eastern European and has roots in Czechian food. They generally have a filling and are wrapped in dough.
Needless to say, I am so happy about this new spot, so make sure you run asap to this new donut shop and make your belly happy!
