Tangy Guava Lemonade

Its been summer less than a week but I’ve been feeling summery for over a month. I’ve been thinking about the beach, refreshing drinks and summer menus because I love the flavors that summer bring. I am from Puerto Rico so tropical flavors never seem really far from my mind and I love trying new variations of something that has been done over and over again. One of these is lemonade. I have to tell you, I am OBSESSED. I love lemonade AND limeade done fresh.

The smell of the fruit as you squeeze out the juice, how it can make a whole room smell like summer, the tartness that can shock your senses ( in a good way πŸ™‚ ) and the sweetness that makes you realize you need more. I am one of those people that once I start drinking fresh lemonade I can’t stop. I have always loved lemons and limes; as a kid I remember eating the most sour candies because I really enjoyed that tartness.

I brought my own twist to this lemonade, bringing my Puerto Rican roots and my love for all things lemons together in this recipes. The end result ends up being this wonderfully tart but yet incredibly refreshing drink that has a taste of the tropical. While I am not a huge fan of drinking straight guava juice, the mix of the lemons and guava nectar made me fall in love and I was so happy that it came out this well the first time. πŸ™‚

In many Puerto Rican households you will find at least one Goya product and I am not any different. I usually have some of the Goya nectars laying around and the Goya Guava Nectar was the perfect addition to this drink. Guava (or Guayaba in Spanish) is thought to have originated fromΒ  Mexico or Central America and then distributed through other regions such as the Caribbean where I am from. The pulp inside can be sweet andΒ  sour plus it has varying levels of ripeness. It is not that easy to find fresh in the northeast and while I looked for it for this recipe I couldn’t find it. Next time I head down to Puerto Rico I hope to make this recipe with some fresh guava added to see how that changes the taste!

I hope you all enjoy this recipe and use it for your summer get together’s- it will be a hit!

Love tropical drinks? Then this is the perfect drink for you!

Such a fun, tasty drink

So Refreshing!

Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 9 Whole Lemons

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Boiling Water
  • 1 Tsp Lemon Zest
  • 1 half Lemon ( chopped up, including peel)

  1. Start by slicing the lemons in half and juicing them. I used a manual juicer and squeezed them over a strainer. Pour all the juice, the zest, and the chopped up lemons into a food processor and mix on high. Pour over strainer into a pitcher. Mix cup of sugar and cup of boiling water and stir until melted through; pour into pitcher. Pour entire carton of nectar into pitcher along with the water.Cover the pitcher and shake well. Voila!
