La Perle Caribbean Restaurant | Everett, MA

I feel like I have always known I was going to love Haitian food the moment I tried it. Why? Well because there are so many similarities between their cuisine and my own native cuisine: Puerto Rican food. I was right, not only did I love everything I ate at La Perle Caribbean Restaurant, but I left wanting more and craving it almost every day last week ( haha) 🙂

Located on a small corner in Everett, just outside of Boston, you walk into a brightly lit and welcoming atmosphere. We arrived kind of late but they were attentive and made sure to provide everything we needed so we could have a great meal.

Haitian food is comprised of many familiar things: plantains, spicy flavors, meats and macaroni salads( LOVE) but it is also comprised of items I was not entirely familiar with or didn’t know that Haitian cuisine offered, LOTS of spaghetti options with all different kinds of meats, mac & cheese and then several different kind of fried foods options that I wasn’t familiar with. I love that about trying new cuisines, particularly ones I am familiar it,  because although I may have an inkling of the flavors, it amazes me how something I am used to in one way tastes so amazing in another way. For instance, the plantains that come with the meal which we call “Tostones” or “Tohs-toh-nes” in Puerto Rico are served with a spicy pickled slaw which is put on top of them. In PR we serve it with mayu-ketchup which is obviously a completely different flavor profile.

I was so impressed by everything we ate, and am looking forward to the next time I can have this wonderful cooking, because it reminds me of being in my grandma’s house surrounded by family and that my friends, is one of the best feelings.

Check out the photos below and if you haven tried Haitian food yet, then go check them out! You don’t know what you are missing!
