No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers. – Laurie Colwin
The second I saw the line out the door and people waiting in their cars I knew I had picked a good place to eat. Outside Atlanta, about 35 minutes away is a place called Nana’s Chicken n Waffles. I can only describe to you the aroma, or the music, or the hospitality of the people there- but you have to go and experience it. There is just something about a place you feel at home in, where you can relax and eat good food. Just like in your grandmothers house. Which is telling, because these recipes were literally handed down generation by generation and are now cooked and enjoyed at this homey place.
To say I was impressed by the food is the least of my reactions. I was blown away by the food- that’s the honest truth. I tried several different things and everything I had was so good I kept wanting to eat more. Indulging at Nana’s Chicken n Waffles is not a hard task, I literally spent my time there enjoying every bite and tasting the flavors of each dish. Of course I tried the famous chicken and waffles- how could I not? You can’t go all the way there and then not try what they are famous for. Just remember to try everything else too because it is superb. From the catfish to the grits to the banana bread I was floored. Honestly I cannot wait to go back next time I am in ATL.
Can I also take a moment to just talk about the fried chicken? This chicken was fresh and piping hot- plus perfectly crispy. They do not joke about their chicken and honestly every bite you take leaves you wanting even more. Delicious, crispy and juicy. Perfect with any waffle you buy and with that hot butter syrup??? Life made. Truly an experience if you’ve never had chicken and waffles. I just cannot rave enough about how delicious their chicken is.
Those stories you hear of southern hospitality rang true during our visits to Nana’s Chicken n Waffles, we were treated like family both times and it was a such a great atmosphere when surrounded by warmth and so much friendliness. If you are looking for a place to to relax, eat delicious and comforting food and tell everyone about it go check them out.Thank you to Kelli ( the owner) and the entire team there who made us feel at home and really tried to make our experience special.
