Milano, Day 1

My first time overseas has been one enormous adventure. There is so much to see, feel, touch and eat and honestly I am experiencing it with my love and his family in every way possible. From visiting family in different parts of Italy to seeing some of the most historical places in the world; Italy has so much to offer.

Our first day in Milan was one of taking it all in and experiencing some things that were within the vicinity of our Airbnb. I want to share these with you all in the best way I know how; by writing about them and sharing pictures of these wonderful areas.

The first place we walked to was Il Duomo,  a Gothic style cathedral that started construction in 1386 and was finally completed in 1965. It is the fifth largest cathedral in the world and it’s a wondrous beauty. You can walk all around it and still keep seeing things you haven’t seen before. All around the area, there are Cafe’s, restaurants, places to shop and crooks and crannies inviting you to explore.

After the cathedral, we sat down to al fresco dining (this is very common here no matter where you go). Caffe Mercanti was in one of the areas of Il Duomo and it was just a nice, quiet corner cafe serving dinner, wine, and treats.

I had my first glass of red wine in Milan- it was a breath of fresh air. All the wine I have had here in Italy has been rich but light and this first Caffe was fantastic.

The food we ordered was Spaghetti a la Vongole which was a special and Taglietelle Bolognese(this was quickly eaten before I could get a decent picture!). They were both incredible dishes filled with flavor and were super fresh.

This wine! Vino Rosso- Tuscan

After this adventure, we walked back to our Airbnb and had some yummy Gelato from the next door place called “Ciocco Bianco Gelateria”. I ordered Coffee and the boo ordered pineapple- we also got fresh strawberry sorbet.

The treats!

Outside…

The first day was quiet but filled with adventure. I can’t wait to share the many other adventures that Italy had for us.

Tips:

  • Il Duomo is very busy, make sure to leave plenty of time to explore around
  • There are plenty of hidden cafes, explore a little don’t go for the first one
  • Taxis are reasonable, but the tram and bus is probably the best way to get around (everywhere)
  • The portions are different in Italy, they eat light
  • Walking has actually been my favorite way o get around locally because you see so much more…

Liven that Maven Life…
