Getaway to Camden Maine

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – Augustine of Hippo

I’ve been to Maine many times in my life, as far north as Lagrange and as close as Kittery. I have seen many things in between but nothing prepared me for the serene, picturesque town of Camden. Nestled between other coastal towns, unless you pay attention you could easily keep on driving on your way further north, but Camden is not to be dismissed or ignored. It is a place where you can get lost in the quiet and be inspired once again; especially when you come from the city like I do; I lost myself in Camden, and in a very good way. So I am telling you now, you should also getaway to Camden, Maine.

Sunrise over Camden Harbor

Don’t let its quiet harbor views fool you into thinking there aren’t a million and one things to do in the area. My two and half days spent there were filled to the brim with activities such as driving up Mount Battie or going to local museums like Farnsworth Art Museum to learn more about local art by well known artist Andrew Wyeth and interact with all the other interesting art while we were there. I also overcame my fear of going up a ski lift by checking out the Camden Snow Bowl for the fall series and I ate so much good food in the area I really would drive up there just to spend the day eating…no lie. The nearby towns of Rockland and Rockport also offer much to the area and I found myself in these lovely towns as well, eating and exploring.

Great art museum, really enjoyed myself here.

This dress was made out of seashells…absolutely gorgeous

Our dear hosts, Janis and Peter Kesser of Camden Maine Stay Inn  took complete care of us. While staying at their inn, I was reminded in the morning of childhood memories of waking up to freshly brewed coffee and breakfast being made by my mom and the serenity of their gardens calmed and inspired me at the same time. They treated us like family and their interactions with all their guests were just like that. They treat everyone the same and are incredibly attentive. They take care with every single detail, and I mean every detail! Each morning a two course breakfast was served to each guest that arrived, and in the afternoon fresh cookies were laid out; this is just one of the many things I loved about their inn.

This stove was a beaut, and look at those cookies!!

Delightful apples our first breakfast

Blueberry juice and the most lovely coffee + look at that gorgeous mug!

Still dreaming about this blueberry bake we had for breakfast our second day

On top of that, they take care with each room, impeccably so. I fell in love with the two rooms we stayed in, one of them being “The Carriage Room” which had a delightful view of the backyard, a long window seat and a cozy fireplace. It felt like we were in our own little wonderland and I have to say I spent some time on that window seat just taking it all in. The house is a historic one, filled to the brim with stories and history. On our first night there Janis gave us a tour of the sitting rooms, dining area and kitchen- each one with its own story to tell one of my favorites being about the stove. Make sure to ask her to tell you all about it when you visit them!

This became the Piano room when it arrived just a couple days before we got there 🙂

Fell in love with this skylight/mirror in the restroom

The table settings were lovely for breakfast each morning

All the magazines for reading when you have a moment to relax

Loved the mustard details

I could have stayed in that window seat forever | The second room we stayed in

Janis and Peter recently took over the Inn, both bringing their own unique touch to this gorgeous bed and breakfast. Both take care to make sure you have everything you need and both are quick to give recommendations of places to eat and things to do in the area. Peter also did some research for me for donut shops in the area! ( You all know I am obsessed with donuts) The itinerary they provided for this trip was stellar and I managed to do almost all of it ( phew). I want to thank them for hosting us and providing such a wonderful experience for myself and my friend. They both really went above and beyond. I have included a list of their “things to do” recommendations below, the ones that we managed to visit. Not included in my list below is walking around downtown Camden which was a treat!

Loved this display walking around downtown.

Because we did so much while we were there I am going to write a separate piece on the food we ate because it was all just marvelous. I hope you will go on your own adventure to Camden and make sure to check out Camden Maine Stay Inn and tell Peter and Janis you heard it from me…because you wont regret it and you’ll love every minute!

Not a good bye, merely a “see you later”

Until next time,
