Lowell Gingerbread Trail & Shop Small

Yesterday was a fun day. I had the opportunity to go on a mini adventure with the owner of Little Delights Bakery in Lowell, MA , walking around local businesses and looking at all the Gingerbread Houses for the 1st Lowell Gingerbread House Trail. Our local businesses put their best artistic hands forward and created some amazing houses. I felt like a little kid as I took in all the fun details, items they used to create their houses and the fun themes.  I was so happy to be a part of this new event and look forward to having it again next year! I want to take a moment to give props to Lee, from Little Delights Bakery, she moved us all in the right direction and took matters into her own hands to push for this fun event. Out of the 22 houses we managed to see  19 and I want to share with you the Magical wonderlands that they were. I am also going to share tidbits from the day from each place …

Plaid Friday

So today was Plaid Friday, an event to support local business and that Mill No 5 was holding. We also went downtown Lowell and bought some Thai Tea from Little Delights Baker and I bought a cool sweater from Humanity Boutique! We found some really cool vintage pieces from Serpentine Books & Collectibles, two Time magazines, one from September 4, 1939 featuring Winston Churchill and the other from June 9, 1941 featuring Benito Mussolini, Ken the owner had some awesome pieces to note, a Cosmopolitan Magazine from 1889  (AWESOME), many historical books and magazines from all over, many religious books, old bottles including a Heinz Ketchup bottle from the early 1900’s. It was a really cool, unique shop right within Mill No. 5 on Jackson St in Lowell. We also went to Red Antler Apothecary where I stocked up on soap and lip balm, if you haven’t seen their new, larger set up go and check them out. We stopped at Coffee & Cotton and I got one of their amazing iced teas! I always …

Sizzling Kitchen-Lowell, MA

I had a great meal last night. I stopped by a new restaurant/cafe that just opened up on Merrimack St in Lowell that was opened up by someone we know from college. As all of you know by now I like to support local, as much as I can. Whether its eating out at local restaurants, buying clothing at local boutiques or supporting local events I like to do what I can because I believe that by supporting others who are trying to make something of themselves, it in turn helps me, the city and the world. Back to the food at hand, they have an interesting menu that varies between traditional Asian inspired dishes like “Bibimbap” to Pasta dishes such as Shrimp Scampi or Parppadelle Pasta with Chicken. Interesting and odd mix to some but it worked. The staff was helpful and friendly and our appetizers were served quickly as well as our food. I was incredibly impressed with the quality of the food and how it was prepared to how the flavors of …

Made In Lowell- 2nd Annual Craft Beer Walk

I had the opportunity to go to a great event last night created by Made in Lowell; it was something different that I had never experienced before but I had a blast and it was great seeing so many people in Downtown enjoying themselves during 2nd Annual Craft Beer Walk but also supporting local business. If I go out I typically never have beer (yes, yes I know), I am just not a “beer” person, but because of this event there a couple that I would now order and also cook with (yes!). I will list my favorites as I get to them! My friend Miry and I did the walk together and although she is an Alumni of UMass Lowell she had never experienced what our beautiful downtown has to offer. So on top of all the great brews we tried during the walk we also bought treats at Sweet Lydias, cupcakes at Little Delights Bakery and some clothing at Humanity Boutique all on Merrimack St in Downtown. Our first stop on the Craft …

Pampering, Makeup & Wine

Anyone who knows me well knows I never wear makeup; nothing, zilch, nada. I have decent skin so I never felt the need to cake on the makeup, but tonight Elaine changed my mind. Maybe now I’ll wear a bit on the weekends or to go out to dinner. Just to do something a bit different. Elaine is a Mary Kay Consultant based out of Lowell, MA and tonight she partnered with Pinot’s Palette based in Lexington, MA to bring us a wonderful night of pampering, teaching and painting some beautiful wine glasses. She showed us how to do everything step by step, answered any questions we had and was amazing as usual, (if you remember I wrote a piece about her and Ani from Humanity Boutique in Lowell, MA a while back) After each step from basic cleansing to moisturizer to makeup we could look at ourselves in our little mirrors and see what we could do different or fix anything we maybe messed up…I was no expert but she helped me and I …

Ani, the owner of Humanity keeps inspiring us women to relish our femininity with the clothes she brings into her shop. From floral, flirty pieces to tomboyish button ups and hats she has it all. If you are looking for some chunky statement necklaces or dainty bracelets to grace your wrist she is the person to check in with. Located right on Merrimack Street in Downtown Lowell she is near all the hustle and bustle that we call home. Also present tonight was Elaine, a Mary Kay Consultant who had a wonderful display up and was giving away fun pampering, makeup samples and lotion samples. She makes a wonderful impression and was so quick to help and give advice. I always love the chance to showcase local business and tonight was no exception, with her bubbly and outgoing personality Ani …

El Potro Mexican Bar & Grill-Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Week

In my very own city in the heart of Downtown Lowell is this gem of a place. Cozy and inviting with pictures and artwork in its nooks crannies this place reiterates everything I appreciate about Mexican Food. I have been here several times and never been disappointed, both my the service and the large quantities of food. They also sell my favorite Mexican Drink called Horchata. It is rich and creamy and perfectly sweet. I would come here just for this. This time I came here to have their Greater Merrimack Valley Showcase Menu and was impressed as usual. Quick service, great little corner booth and such a large quantity of food I thought I would explode. Started off with my Horchata and fresh chips and salsa, looked over the menu and quickly ordered. I ordered the Tampiquena which had Steak, a cheese enchilada, refried beans, pico de gallo & rice. The Steak was perfectly seasoned and the cheesy enchilada was warm and filling. Everything complimented each other and I was happily filled up at …

Fuse Bistro-Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Week

I was happy to go to Fuse Bistro last night as my third stop along the trail of the Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Week. This is a fun spot to hang out in Downtown Lowell, in an old firehouse and on Cobblestone streets. The Menu is new and exciting and the offerings they had on the Showcase menu were varied. I started off with the Stellina Pinot Grigio.  Very light and refreshing with a crisp, tart after taste. Appetizer was Fried Calamari w/ Sweet Chili Sauce This was cooked perfectly and there were also crispy fried pickles included. The dipping sauce was phenomenal. Entree was Fried Chicken w/ Red Eye Gravy and Pumpkin Waffles The gravy was amazing and the chicken was cooked to perfection and crispy. The spinach, cranberries and butternut squash complimented the savory dish perfectly. Pumpkin waffle was light and fluffy. I ordered dessert even though it wasn’t part of the showcase menu because I couldn’t resist. All the desserts were posted on a huge chalkboard and all sounded wonderful. I went with …

110 Grill-Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase

Ladies and Gents, prepare yourselves to accomplish a culinary feat if you dine at 110 Grill in Chelmsford, MA. As my second stop along the Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Trail, I was taken aback by how wonderful and ingenious the food was. The difference of flavors mingling on one plate, the savory and the sweet and idea that you can mix together certain things and the end result is superb. I enjoyed every single aspect of my meal from beginning to end. Our waiter JD took care of my friend and I attentively throughout our time there and made sure we had everything we needed. The interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting with dim lighting and a cozy feel. Service across the board was outstanding, no complaints whatsoever. The food came out quick, hot and fresh! My friend ordered opposite of everything I did on the Showcase Menu so that I could try everything! 🙂 So I will give you my impressions of the whole Menu! First course Burrata, Fig, & Prosciutto …

Evviva Cucina-Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Week

Yesterday kicked off the Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Week happening from October 4th to October 18th. To start it off I decided I would pick Evviva Cucina as my first restaurant and this was also one of the first Menus I highlighted when I began blogging about this great event.    My first impression of the restaurant was a warm and inviting one. I made a reservation about two hours before and when we arrived we were quickly ushered in and seated. The manager made her way over to say hello and welcome us to the restaurant. Perfect first impression! I knew what I wanted from having been looking over the Menus for two weeks 🙂 so there was no delay on that part. Below I’ll list what I ordered and my impressions of each and I have also included a picture of what everyone else in my party ordered. First Course – Polpette House made Meatballs, Marinara, Hand Dipped Ricotta & Fresh Basil Two Meatballs came in this Appetizer, they were very large, …
