In Her Shoes – Women of Color & the Stories We Share

“It’s in the reach of my arms, the span of my hips, the stride in my step, the curl of my lips. I’m a woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me. ” – Maya Angelou Creating a safe space for women of all races and backgrounds was what this event intended to do and it created a beautiful yet eye opening awareness for those in attendance and those who spoke. This was also a dedication and remembrance to the life of Many “Lee” Pho-Taing who lost her battle with cancer this past February. She was the owner of Little Delights Bakery in Downtown Lowell and we wanted to commemorate and honor her life, she would have loved this event! Ani Vong, Owner at Humanity Style and Masada Jones of the Kindred Project were our hosts and organizers. Together they created an event that filled our souls with an incredible amount of fervor and realized in all of us how far our hands reach and where we can go in life. I was incredibly privileged to be asked to …

2nd Annual Gingerbread Trail

Last weekend I had the opportunity to walk the Gingerbread Trail in Lowell. This is the second year of the trail and it was wonderful to see the businesses come together and share the creativity with the community. Last year I walked the trail with my mother and I remember it as a wonderful memory. These types of activities make the holidays fun, and teach us more about the community we live in, I enjoyed learning new things, finding new places and exploring this great city even more. Each house had a theme, and  each business put their own twist on their houses. With details, colors, art and delicious treats I wanted to take a bite out of. Another great part of this trail was the ability to support local; I could walk into businesses and see what thy had to offer, from art galleries to boutiques. Take a look at these pictures from the trail and make sure to check these places out!   Made in Lowell/COOL – “Welcome Home” Humanity Boutique – “#loveforhumanity” Cobblestones – “Cozy …

Summer Kick Off Weekend- Made in Lowell – Lowell, MA

This event hosted by Made in Lowell was so much fun; over the course of Friday and Saturday I had the opportunity to roam around Downtown Lowell to take part in the Summer Kickoff 2016! First stop was Lucy Larcom Park in Downtown Lowell, where there was a DJ, food trucks, vendors,  fun sidewalk chalk art, beer garden, life size checkers board  and more. The weather was perfect and this was the best place to start the summer off. As people milled through and stopped at the different vendors and food trucks there was a real sense of community of people coming together. The kids were dancing in the middle of the walkway and tossing around a soccer ball, families were sitting together eating at the tables set up right next to the canal and the life-size checker board and Jenga at the end of the walkway were such a blast. I enjoyed myself immensely! 🙂 Of course, it helped I had Truffle Mac & Cheese from The Roving Lunchbox food truck… 🙂 Chalk art …

Friday Nights! – Lowell, MA

Last night I took part of a new event that Made in Lowell hosted. With food trucks, a beer garden, local vendors, live music, and a surprise appearance by The Party Band it was insane, incredible fun. Held at Point Park which is right next to the Innovation Hub in the Jackson Street area, the crowds showed up ready to support local, eat tons of food and drink some good ale. Vendor appearances included Rosie’s Cafe, Two Stylish Sisters, Flourish Cafe  , Red Antler Apothecary and more. I managed to stop by a few and buy some local made items and see Lowell at it’s finest; supporting small business and all the things that this community is made of. The food truck I managed to get food from was Yumm Bai Food Truck and I had the most amazing Barbecue Pork Buns and Veggie Eggrolls. Super fresh and flavorful! I had a great time at this event walking around the canal, listening to the great music and checking out the vendors who came out. Such a lively evening …

The 2016 Lowell Folk Festival – 30th Anniversary

I am so excited to share this post with all of you. Every year Lowell has an epic family friendly Folk Festival that goes on for an entire weekend and this year it happens to be the 30th anniversary of the event. This will be the first year I am covering it for my blog and this first initial post is to share with you some great things that will be happening during the event. Lowell, MA has had the longest, free Folk Festival in the country. That says a lot about the community and the city of Lowell. Individuals and families come together for this festival because they love culture, diversity, food, adventure, fun and it can all be found this July from the 29th to the 31st. You may ask, what can someone do at this festival? Well, the list is a long one; from experiencing food from different cultures to discovering art to learning about specialized crafts to music from all over the world. With fun for the whole family; your mind, soul, …

Beards & Brews II

The hustle and bustle at Mill No 5 this year made for an eccentric, boisterous Beards & Brews event that brought the community together. As part of the event itself there were food samples, beer and cider samples, the beard competition and live music. The shops were open and lively and I made sure to stop by as many as I could while also enjoying the event with a friend. Some highlights of the night were the amazing cider’s from Rekorderlig (4 flavors!!) and Champlain Orchards Cidery, Yuengling, the brownies from Coffee & Cotton and the Oils from Cucina Aurora. The music from The Low in Between was energetic, lively and entertaining, perfect for this event. Milling around and shopping while sampling ciders and food has always been my idea of great fun. In almost everything I do, food is involved; it has become something to explain, to learn and to most of all enjoy. When events come around that include food and people I am always one to quickly jump into it and experience what …

The Ball-Happy New Year!!

What a night last night! Full of friends, music, bites to eat and champagne it was a night to be remembered. Guests were decked out in Gatsby inspired wear; women in dresses and pearls and men in suits and ties looking incredibly dapper. At an amazing cathedral on Merrimack St in Lowell, MA we spent the night laughing, having fun, taking pictures waiting until the clock struck twelve to ring in the New Year. This event, presented by Made In Lowell was another sold out event following their many successes in 2015. From the venue to the entertainment everything was stellar as usual. In all the blog posts leading up to the event, this is what I imagined it would be and again I am so happy and proud to be a part of a fantastic city. A city that can continue to grow and prosper when organizations like Made In Lowell really push the people around them to be better and strive for better things. Here’s to 2016, enjoy the good times learn from the …
