Some of you may know that I am particular about my apples. I like a crisp, tart fruit with a hint of sweetness and honestly, it’s not always easy to find this perfect flavor combination. But alas! Apple-Pumpkin Bars

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching (and Christmas right behind it) I wanted to share a recipe with you all that I delighted in making and will absolutely be a kicker in all your holiday functions.  I had the opportunity to attend a brunch with some other amazing Boston area (super talented) bloggers that was sponsored by Autumn Glory Apples and was hosted by fellow blogger Hunger Thirst Play. We all made different dishes featuring some pretty great apples and had a jolly old time. I decided to go with a sweet, slightly spicy dish in these bars. Often we see two components of this dish together but not all three and I loved how the kick from the gingersnap cookie crust just went so well with the caramelized apples. Pasta Primavera

“I’m just someone who likes cooking and for whom sharing food is a form of expression.” – Maya Angelou This recipe brought back memories of Italy, not only because it is a pasta dish but because of one of the herbs I used in the dish. While in Milan I had a dish called , “Ravioli a la Borragine” that has stayed with me because of its flavor and sense of comfort. Through a contact at Mill No 5 I found “Borrage” here and decided to start using it to experiment a little. This first recipe I used it in is a simple red sauce filled with vegetables and spices. It was rich and delightful but also quite light. You could easily make this sauce vegan or vegetarian by omitting the ground chicken- it is so good that I had two servings and we still have plenty left over. Having people over? Strawberry Feta Salad

I never used to be one for adding fruit to anything savory, I thought it would be weird and honestly never knew what I was missing. There are so many flavors that you can combine whether savory, sweet, tart, or earthy. The list is really endless and I have opened up my palate to experiment with these unique flavors. This week I have delighted to be spending a lot of time with my very good friend who is also a blogger and we have been collaborating on several recipes. One of them happened to be this amazing salad that is fresh, summery and has tons of flavor. Between the equal sweetness and tartness of the strawberry, the salty feta and the fresh parsley the combination was potent and made for a wonderful side dish to the main meal. Zesty Cajun Chicken

Testing out recipes is simply one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy working with flavors, texture and while it doesn’t always work out sometimes you get a gem like this in your repertoire that you can cook easily and can change to your taste depending on your diet needs. This dish is full of flavor and kicks you right in the taste buds. There are a few components of this dish that make it stand out such as the crispness of the cardamom and creaminess of the coconut cream. I was so happy I finally perfected this recipe- a big shout out to my friend over at Mom of the Twins Blog for suggesting cardamom! As side dishes I used fresh Avocado and Tomato along with brown rice. Perfect compliment to strong flavors in the chicken. Fruity Pebbles Treats

My childhood came through in this recipe, I remember absolutely loving Fruity Pebbles as a kid drenched in milk and then when all the cereal was gone I would drink up the milk. These days I go for more healthy options like Oatmeal or Avocado Toast but every so often I like to remember those sweet, childhood food memories. This recipe while incredibly simple speaks to those memories and made me realize that the original cereals will never get old. Cheesy Jalapeño Cornbread Waffles

Cheese. Jalapeños. Cornbread. Chicken Gravy. These are the starts to some very yummy cornbread waffles that remind me of Southern comfort food. While these are lighter and don’t have the calories that most waffles have they are still wonderful. I collaborated with my friend and fellow blogger, Mom of the Twins Blog on the gravy- originally from the South she makes wonderful homemade comfort food occasionally and last night when I perfected this recipe she was making this wonderful gravy you see in the pictures. I went out a purchased a mini waffle maker which makes the cutest waffles, and I am going to have fun this summer creating new waffles and sharing them with you all. Since he was born and raised in Italy , I wanted to be able to cook pasta well and create sauces that would stay true to his Italian roots but also have a bit of my own Puerto Rican background. Over time I realized that there are days I just throw things together and because I know these flavors now I don’t measure anything. On the eve of a New Year, I wanted to leave you all with a recipe I created using local products that has become one of my favorite savory recipes of the year. Lyndigo Spice a local company that makes spice blends, chutneys and more, creates the Original Spice blend, a unique flavor palette that literally makes everything taste better. I put it on everything from eggs to chicken and it is my go to spice blend. Mill City Cheesemongers, a local shop at Mill Number 5 has a plethora of cheese from local New England farms and across the sea. Harvest Soup: Gifts from the Earth

Every Sunday at Mill No 5 there is a Farmer’s Market from 11-3, on top of fresh produce you can buy eggs, meat and other wonderful items. A couple weekends ago I stopped by for ingredients for a recipe I was inspired to make based on Harvest time and what we look for when we think of comfort food. Comforting food to me is soups, chilis, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and more. With this recipe, I transformed vegetables and herbs into a hearty, thick soup that was a perfect one pot meal and didn’t require too much planning. The flavors that came from the combination of spices were rich, savory and just slightly sweet.
