Memorial Day Weekend Adventures

Something I like to say often is  “Adventuring along”.  Adventure is what you decide it should be, whether you stay local and find something to do you have never done before or you go to a different city and find new things to do; whatever it might be, it is YOUR adventure and this weekend I took that to heart. Rosevelt and I, with our friends decided to start our Saturday by a visit to the Crane Estate located in Ipswich, MA. While we didn’t get to do the house tour because of two weddings happening, they did let us quickly do a drive around and take some beautiful pictures.  Even just taking pictures and looking around at the grounds was gorgeous. You could see the ocean in the distance, and the gardens were beautiful. I fell in love with this place, because I felt like I was transported back in time. I can’t wait to go back and tour the house and have more time to really explore. Nearby is Crane Beach, which will we …

Food Tour- Lowell, MA

I say it all the time, Lowell is the place to be when you want good food, awesome atmosphere and cool, unique people. The food tour I conducted last weekend was an experience for sure; asked to help a friend out with her and her classmates project I jumped at the idea to try places I had already been to and also try a new spot. The day was beautiful , sunny and breezy and perfect to walk around downtown and take a quick trip to Mill No 5. Culturally Lowell has a lot to offer, from Cambodian to Colombian, you can always find something to suit what you are craving at any given moment. The opportunities are quite endless to find a different ethnic cuisine everywhere you turn. Last Saturday was no exception; while we originally wanted to try six restaurants, our stomachs balked after the fourth. 🙂 🙂 It was a truly enjoyable experience and I hope you all enjoy the pictures, the details and go try some of these places out yourself! …

A Taste of Venezuela-Galeria Cafe

I am one of those people that consistently browses to find new places to drink coffee, eat food and enjoy some new atmosphere. When I find a new place where I live I am thoroughly happy and always try to go as soon as I can to see what it’s all about. Galeria Cafe located on Merrimack St right outside of Downtown Lowell is a warm, inviting place where you can enjoy some good coffee, listen to some wonderfully authentic Venezuelan music and have some really good pastries and food. When we went yesterday, we walked in on live music being played by three gentleman, two guitars and one harp…yes a harp. It was a glorious sound and relaxing as we waited for our food to be ready. When the wonderful woman who helped us out knew I was Puerto Rican she suggested I try their Sancocho. I immediately said yes because I hadn’t had it in over 15 years since I was a little girl sitting in my Abuela’s kitchen. Roosevelt ordered a hamburger Venezuelan …

110 Grill-Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase

Ladies and Gents, prepare yourselves to accomplish a culinary feat if you dine at 110 Grill in Chelmsford, MA. As my second stop along the Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Trail, I was taken aback by how wonderful and ingenious the food was. The difference of flavors mingling on one plate, the savory and the sweet and idea that you can mix together certain things and the end result is superb. I enjoyed every single aspect of my meal from beginning to end. Our waiter JD took care of my friend and I attentively throughout our time there and made sure we had everything we needed. The interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting with dim lighting and a cozy feel. Service across the board was outstanding, no complaints whatsoever. The food came out quick, hot and fresh! My friend ordered opposite of everything I did on the Showcase Menu so that I could try everything! 🙂 So I will give you my impressions of the whole Menu! First course Burrata, Fig, & Prosciutto …

Check the Menus!

As many of you know I have been writing multiple blog posts about the Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Showcase Week and I am so excited about this particular one. As I explained before this will entail over 20 Restaurants having a “Pre-fixe” menu option and in season menu items. Because of the Fall season many dishes are implementing those fall flavors and really experimenting with different ways to make and savor food items. I wanted to highlight a few menu’s from the Restaurants I was really looking forward to trying and share with you some of my thoughts. I am also going to be going to these Restaurants to taste these creations and let you all know how great they are 🙂 The first Menu I want to highlight is from Victoria’s Restaurant at the Holiday Inn Tewksbury in Tewksbury, MA. They really incorporated the very flavor of fall into their Menu and looking it over really made me want to try every single piece of food they have to offer. They have 3 Appetizers, …

Boston Comic Con 2015

I wouldn’t consider myself a veteran of comic con a quite yet but I must say I am more prepared for them now and all the preparation that goes into it especially if you Cosplay and do the whole costuming thing. Often times you also meet celebrities at Comic Cons and talk to them and take pictures with them. Some of the past ones have been the cast of the original Star Trek, the original Power Rangers (what can I say I’m a 90s kid), the original Flash, and several others. This year though I think was the best one yet. Meeting and taking a picture with Stan Lee. The legend.  Roosevelt and I walked into the photo op,he was happy to  meet us and he complimented us on our costumes and said we looked great. There is something about this guy that just transcends everything else. For the comic book geek and for the comic movie nerd this guy is the Creator, the Godfather and honestly just an all around great guy who has done …

Folk Festival Fun!

This years festival was a lot of fun and even though I didn’t get to see everything I wanted to just being in the atmosphere amongst the crowds of people was a great way to spend this past weekend. People came from all over to eat, listen, dance and be merry. Downtown Lowell became a bustling hub of all sorts of different sounds and the smells of food from all over the world wafted in and out everywhere you walked. It was such a  sensory experience, that by the end of the weekend I was exhausted. I spent a lot of time searching for different foods,at the Lowell Makes Booth & GiveWave Studios and shopping for clothes at Humanity.  I saw the end of the performance of Los Cambaleches, and a dance performance. I had fresh Limeade &Lemonade combined. Yum! I had Platefuls of Latin food which included the following; Pastellillos (meat pockets ) filled with savory chicken, Arroz con Gandules y Pernil (rice with pigeon peas and roasted pork), Tostones (double fried green plantains) and …

1761 Old Mill Restaurant

Last week my mom took me to this place for my birthday, it was a wonderful time. The day was perfect, place beautiful and the food superb. This place has antiques scattered throughout, small little dining rooms all separate from one another, heavenly smells wafting in and out and a gift shop that had all sorts of interesting and cool knick knacks. I was completely impressed by the fact that they served homemade pecan rolls, dinner rolls and corn fritters complimentary for each person and boy let me tell you those corn fritters were like biting into an insane mix of sweet and salty. Drizzled with a bit of syrup and fresh butter I would go back just for those. The area that its in is very quiet, you hear the sounds of the wind against the trees, small waterfalls gushing and the birds cackling to each other; very relaxing especially if you have had a long week. Let me get right into the food, because obviously that’s what you all want to know about right? …

Clean Eats

Over the course of my weight loss journey, my dieting woes and overall displeasure with the way I was leading my “eating” life I made some decisions a few years back about the food I eat. This isn’t to say I don’t have off days and eat whatever I want. I have learned however that eating clean is a complete lifestyle change and you are what you eat. Inside and out. I have noticed by implementing certain things and removing others from my diet I felt healthier and more energetic and I believe you have to find your own balance with what you eat. That happy place where you can both enjoy your food but also feel great while eating. I am a self professed foodie and my friends and family know me as the person to ask for food ideas, restaurants to go to and new cuisines to explore. In all of this I still look for quality and freshness and my focus has been on finding all sorts of interesting and new cuisines …
